Introducing The Tudor Rose Series and the True Tudor Rose ...
Elizabeth of York aka Elizabeth Plantagenet my direct ancestor, she is the one that brought a True end to The War of the Roses. As a direct Tudor and Plantagenet | York descendant, she married Henry VII and brought peace.
HISTORY
The Tudor rose — the famous floral emblem of England — originally showed white on the outside and red inside in some early versions, but the most familiar modern design has red on the outside and white in the center.
This change wasn’t random — it reflects political symbolism and dynastic unity:
🌹 1. Origins: White Rose of York & Red Rose of Lancaster
The white rose represented the House of York (e.g., Edward IV of England).
The red rose represented the House of Lancaster (e.g., Henry VI of England).
After the Wars of the Roses (1455–1487), the Tudor dynasty sought to unify the warring factions.
👑 2. Union Symbolism under Henry VII
Henry VII of England, a Lancastrian, married Elizabeth of York in 1486.
This marriage united the two rival houses.
The Tudor rose was created as a combined emblem — red for Lancaster, white for York.
🔄 3. Why the Color Order Reversed
Early depictions sometimes placed white outside to emphasize York’s importance through marriage.
Over time, the red outer petals became standard, symbolizing the Tudor monarch’s (Lancastrian) authority, while the white inner petals represented York.
It visually conveyed: Lancaster envelops York, showing the Tudors’ dominance but also the unity of the two.
🏰 4. Standardization in Royal Imagery
Under Henry VIII of England, the red-outside-white-inside version became the official and most used design in royal emblems, architecture, and coinage.
It appeared throughout palaces like Hampton Court Palace and in government insignia.
✅ In short:
White outside (early) = York emphasis or balance between houses.
Red outside (later) = Tudor (Lancaster) dominance and official royal symbolism.

⚡️ I Dawn Piercy am the founder of Thunder's Reign, I designed my company from the ground up, I wanted to honor my great grandmother and bring back to light the original True Tudor Rose within the Tudor Rose Series. I sketched out and design a few Tudor Rose Corsets, front and back, brought them to life, and made my vectors and patterns, copywrote the designs and am now able to bring them to you. I have physical ones I am sewing, making by hand as well. Those are not yet available and will be more in cost.
For more information on The Plantagenet's, I have an entire series broken down from fully covering each of their independent lives, timelines as people, as family feuds, as fathers, and mothers, sons and daughters they were. And those around them, near and far, not just Kings and Queens.
I have made and designed a group just for Tdr Now and The Heritage Hunters Podcast where you can see clips, stream, watch, and check out the official website, linked on main page under History Podcast or click below for episode one and watch the clip of one of the episodes. Season One is now available and consist of 7 episodes total.
